Employer Brand & Explainer Films for OpCity
Austin Tech & Recruitment Video Production
OpCity, a fast-growing real estate technology company later acquired by Realtor.com, partnered with StoryChef Media to produce a series of three films that explained what they do, how they do it, and why the right people should want to work there.
The videos were designed to support recruiting, onboarding, and employer branding during a period of rapid scale.
Project Overview
This project involved producing three strategic videos for OpCity, a real estate marketplace and concierge platform operating at the intersection of consumers, agents, and technology.
The films focused on:
Explaining OpCity’s complex business model in a clear, approachable way
Highlighting company culture and mission
Communicating the benefits of working at the organization
The goal was to create assets recruiters could use repeatedly—without having to re-explain the business from scratch on every call.
The Challenge
OpCity’s growth created a familiar problem for scaling tech companies: complexity plus velocity.
Recruiters were spending 10+ minutes on each call simply explaining how the business worked before they could even discuss roles, culture, or fit. While the model was powerful, it wasn’t intuitive to candidates unfamiliar with the behind-the-scenes mechanics of real estate transactions.
The challenge was to clearly explain:
The consumer journey
OpCity’s role as a concierge and connector
The technology and data science powering the platform
All without overwhelming the viewer.
Strategy & Creative Approach
The strategy was to lead with context, not complexity.
Rather than starting with technology or internal jargon, the narrative begins with the real-world problem: buying or selling a home is stressful, confusing, and often fragmented. From there, the story introduces OpCity as the guide—helping consumers navigate a complex journey with confidence.
The series was structured to:
Explain why OpCity exists
Show how it operates across technology, data, and process
Reinforce who thrives inside the organization
Each film played a specific role, but together they formed a cohesive narrative system recruiters could deploy before or during conversations.
Production & Execution
Production included executive and team interviews supported by purposeful b-roll and clean visual storytelling. Interviews were guided to keep explanations human and accessible, even when discussing technical systems like data science, matching models, and internal platforms.
The films were designed to work independently or as a sequence—allowing recruiters to tailor which video to send based on the stage of the conversation.
Post-Production & Storytelling
In post-production, the focus was clarity and flow.
Complex ideas were broken into plain-language explanations, supported by pacing and structure that kept viewers engaged without feeling overwhelmed. The edit balanced professionalism with approachability, helping candidates understand both the business and the culture behind it.
The final videos functioned as evergreen recruiting tools, not time-bound marketing pieces.
Results & Impact
The completed video series helped OpCity’s recruiting team significantly reduce the amount of time spent explaining the fundamentals of the business during calls. Candidates arrived better informed, allowing conversations to focus on role fit, expectations, and culture.
As OpCity continued to scale, these assets supported hiring efficiency and consistency—contributing to a stronger recruiting process during a critical growth phase prior to their acquisition by Realtor.com.
Why This Type of Video Works
For fast-growing tech and marketplace companies, explainer and employer brand videos:
Save recruiter time
Improve candidate quality
Create consistent messaging across teams
When complexity is handled upfront, conversations move faster—and with more confidence on both sides.
